As a company of animal lovers committed to making only theĀ best healthy treats for dogs and cats, we cross paths with many deserving pet charity organizations and rescues who share our passion for improving the lives of pets. The incredible work they do not only makes a difference to the pets, but inspires humans like us to do the same. In an effort to spread the word and share that inspiration, we present this ongoing article series that puts a "spawtlight" on these altruistic organizations,Ā what they do and how others can help.

GETTING TO KNOW DAISY'S LEGACY

When Daisy's LegacyĀ reached out to us to ask if we could donate our healthy dog treats for veterans and caregivers facing challenges in providing for their service animals, we were immediately moved to action and wanted to learn more about this pet charity and their mission. We spoke to founder and president Krasi Mircheva,Ā and here's what we learned.

Tell us a little about your organization. How would you describe your mission and how it guides your work?

Daisy's Legacy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing animal welfare and supporting the human-animal bond. We focus on rescuing at-risk pets, advocating for responsible pet care, and providing resources to animals and their families. Inspired by the memory of Daisy, our mission is driven by compassion, care, and the belief that every life deserves a second chance.

How did your organization come about?

Daisy's Legacy was founded after the loss of Daisy, a beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, due to a tragic medication error. Her passing inspired us to create a nonprofit to address gaps in the pet care system and support vulnerable animals. Over time, weā€™ve expanded to include a rescue program and a dedicatedĀ Veterans Support ProgramĀ to aid veterans and their service dogs.Ā

How many people do you have on your team at this pet charity?Ā What is your role in the organization?Ā

Our team currently consists of 3 board members and 2 volunteers, and weā€™re working to expand our network of supporters and fosters.Ā I am the President and Founder of Daisyā€™s Legacy. As of now, I manage almost every aspect of the organization, including event planning, website and social media management, accounting, fundraising, and overseeing rescue operations. My role also involves building partnerships, coordinating with volunteers, and ensuring that our mission is carried out in every program and initiative. Itā€™s a lot to juggle, but Iā€™m passionate about making a difference and growing Daisyā€™s Legacy to help even more animals in need.

Do you have specific goals for your organization? Are there any activities/programs that you think make the largest impact?

One of our primary goals is to grow our Veterans Support Program, which provides critical assistance to veterans and their ESAs or service animals. This includes covering costs for food, medical care, vaccinations, and supplies, ensuring that veterans and their companions have the resources they need to thrive together. In addition, we are expanding our rescue efforts to pull at-risk animals from kill shelters. Murphy, our first rescue, was saved from euthanasia on his scheduled day. Programs like these allow us to make a direct impact on the lives of animals and their families.

"Your high-quality treats would bring not only nourishment but also much-needed joy to these hardworking service animals."

Krasi Mircheva, Founder & President of Daisyā€™s Legacy

How do you spread your message/get the word out about your cause?

We use social media platforms likeĀ InstagramĀ andĀ FacebookĀ to share stories of rescues, urgent needs, and updates about our programs. We also partner with organizations that align with our mission, like the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, to reach broader audiences and provide support to veterans and their animals.

Can you share one of your favorite experiences or memories from your time with your organization?Ā

One of the most rewarding experiences was saving Murphy, our first rescue. He was on the euthanasia list at a crowded shelter, but thanks to quick action and incredible support, we were able to give him a second chance. Moments like seeing him on his freedom ride and settling into his foster home reaffirm our purpose and show the impact of our work.

What are your primary sources of funding and donations? How can people contribute or volunteer?

Our primary sources of funding come from individual donations and fundraising events. People canĀ donate directlyĀ through our website, where we also provide updates about our programs and initiatives. We are always looking for passionate volunteers to join our mission! Whether itā€™s fostering, transporting animals, or helping with events, there are many ways to get involved.Ā Volunteer applicationsĀ are also available on our website, making it easy to sign up and make a difference. Every contributionā€”big or smallā€”helps us save lives and continue our work for animals in need.

Anything else you'd like to share about your pet charity?

Weā€™re incredibly proud of our Veterans Support Program, which not only helps veterans care for their animals but also strengthens the bond between them. These animals often provide essential emotional and mental health support for veterans, and ensuring their well-being is a top priority for Daisyā€™s Legacy. Weā€™re honored to work with organizations like Farm to Pet to continue saving lives and making a difference for both animals and the people who love them. Thank you for helping us grow and fulfill our mission!
