This year, Farm to Pet is turning Change a Pet’s Life Day, which falls on January 24, into an entire week! We are partnering with our good friends at Live Like Roo to spread the word about positive difference you can make in furry lives – and your own! – when you rescue a dog or cat.
Rescuing, fostering or adopting a pet is one of the most rewarding things an animal lover can do, but it is also a big commitment. Sometimes the adoptee is a healthy kitten or puppy, but more often, the pet in need is an adult, senior or health-challenged pet. Thanks to organizations like Live Like Roo, there are helpful funds for rescue pets and their people who need extra care or support to welcome a new furry family member into their homes.
We hope the heart-warming stories below inspire you to change a pet’s life and choose to rescue a dog or cat, as well as donate to Live Like Roo’s paw-some rescue funds to help even more humans do the same!
The Cappy Fund honors beloved therapy dog Cappy’s legacy by fully supporting rescue dogs in shelters and foster care, helping them get the care they deserve.
The Chris Kohl Fund honors Chris, who dedicated his life to rescue animals, by providing an annual grant to a shelter, rescue, or foster animal.
"We had been considering a second dog when we saw Eleanor’s photo through a local rescue and couldn’t believe she was still waiting for a home. Reading her story changed everything – she had been in a shelter in Mexico scheduled for euthanasia by electrocution, a reality in places without access to medication. She was too terrified to even walk out of the rescue building, so we carried her.
She was rescued just in time and brought to Maine, where she immediately clung to our other dog Virgil. The world was overwhelming at first – stairs, televisions, even trees, but she healed and found comfort in love and companionship.
Today, Eleanor greets every adventure with wonder, loving the world fiercely despite all the reasons she once had to fear it."

"On a Thursday in October 2019, I was a surgery assistant at a vet clinic when a family of kittens came in. There was something special about the first kitten I picked up, and not just because he was the biggest of his litter.
Meeko was a spitfire as a baby, using his extra toes to take magnets off the fridge, pictures off the walls, and whatever else you can think of. As he has gotten older, Meeko has become my “heart cat” – my everything. He now lives a life of luxury, filled with the best cat treats, the best cat food, and even the opportunity to model the best pet accessories – on his terms, of course. Despite having asthma, Meeko is truly living his best life.
He shares our home with three sister kitties and is the glue that holds our family together. Meeko always knows how I’m feeling and does everything he can to make me happier."

"In 2016, I came across Rocky by pure accident at a shelter in Washington. He was just eight months old and already on the kill list. I adopted him that day, never knowing how much he would change my life.
Rocky went on to be trained as a service dog and had an incredible eight-year career, traveling the country and supporting me every step of the way. Now retired, he’s living his very best life – and I’m forever grateful for the journey we’ve shared together."

"After nearly ten months of searching for the right dog, I found Bella through a Petfinder email. She had been rescued as a stray in north Georgia and was waiting for a home at Etowah Valley Humane Society.
When Bella first came home, she was quiet, over-anxious, and scared of almost everything. Over the past four and a half years, we’ve worked hard together. Since then, she’s grown into a confident, opinionated little dog full of personality.
Today, Bella has a loving home with two devoted parents, a big yard to explore, Farm to Pet dog treats to enjoy, and plenty of snuggles each night – reminding us daily that rescuing her was the best decision we could have made."

Little changes in your pet’s diet can a big difference in his quality of life. Ensure your dog treats and cat treats are more than indulgences by choosing options that are high in protein and nutrients, low in fat and calories, and super tasty and delicious to furry little carnivores. Farm to Pet’s healthy, all-natural, single-ingredient treats tick all the boxes, featuring only minimally-processed, human-grade chicken, turkey, beef or fish to give dogs and cats flavor they love with nutrition they need.
WHY PETS NEED PROTEIN
Animal proteins like poultry, beef and fish are complete proteins, meaning they contain a full spectrum of amino acids. Dogs and, to an even greater degree, cats need these nutrients to perform vital bodily functions including digestive, cardiovascular and nervous system actions as well as maintain healthy organs, joints, immune systems and more. Boost your fur baby’s protein intake in a way she’ll love with Farm to Pet dog treats and cat treats as part of a healthy pet diet, and see the difference for yourself.
The loving bond between these rescue pets and their paw-rents literally jumps off the page and into our hearts in these personal pet adoption stories. Their earnest words and joy-filled pictures show exactly how much both furry and human lives are changed for the better when you rescue a dog or cat. Check out our social posts all week long to learn more about Change a Pet’s Life Week, Live Like Roo, and how your donations to this deserving pet charity and their rescue funds can help furry friends in need in so many impactful ways.
And remember - every time you purchase a bag of Farm to Pet Live Like Roo Turkey Chips, you help another dog in need!
